Du'a At Maghrib
A downloadable poem
Du’a At Maghrib by Steph Beck Fey
Maghrib begins when the whole disk of the sun has set.
Wash, pray, do what is required of you, then go outside if you’re not there already. Ask for privacy if you need it, then think of someone you’ve cared about.
Whether they’re still in your life or not, imagine they’re here with you now.
Tell about something that happened since you saw them last. Even if it’s only a comment on the night sky.
Tell something you’re feeling about them. There’s always something. Maybe you love them. Maybe you can never forgive them. Maybe both.
Think of what you would want them to say back. Think of what they would say back.
Think of something good you want for them.
Think of something good you want for yourself too.
Be kind to the person, but be kind to yourself first.
Your god is always listening, so address them for a moment. Speak aloud the good you wish for yourself and the person you’ve cared about.
When you’re finished, say amin and watch the light fade.
Maghrib ends when the last streak of red has disappeared from the western horizon. Go inside. Wash, pray, do what is required of you.

A one-player poem written for the One Scene Jam and inspired by Swords & Flowers' beautiful piece, Come Closer. I was asked to include instructions on how to wash and pray, so there they are, but they aren't necessary to follow along.
